Michael Connelly’s iconic character of Mickey Haller returns to Netflix with The Lincoln Lawyer, starring Manuel Garcia-Rulfo. Based on the books written by Connelly himself, this is his third streaming series after Amazon shows Bosch and Harry Bosch.

David E. Kelley’s Emmy-winning legal drama is an updated take on classic potboiler paperbacks, drawing inspiration from Michael Connelly’s best-selling novels. Manuel Garcia-Rulfo stars as Los Angeles lawyer Mickey Haller; it starts off with him being attacked in his parking lot by several men before quickly taking off – with gripping courtroom drama and an intricate script making this show highly entertaining.

The Lincoln Lawyer is set in Los Angeles and features many iconic locations from Mulholland Drive to Pacific Coast Highway, while also featuring local favorites such as Titus Welliver (of Bosch fame). While both shows exist within one universe, Lincoln Lawyer focuses on criminal defense attorney Mickey Haller who happens to be half brother to Detective Hieronymus “Harry” Bosch; though its first season began with Mickey in a low point; season 2 shows him at his best both professionally and personally.

Actors

Manuel Garcia-Rulfo stars as Mickey Haller, an LA lawyer who takes on cases out of his Lincoln Navigator in Los Angeles and has two former wives as well as an unlikely client who provides support during cases. Manuel’s characters also include two ex-wives and an unusual client-turned-driver to aid with these endeavors.

The show recently premiered on July 6 and has already been renewed for a third season. Cast members include Neve Campbell, Becki Newton, Jazz Raycole (Mickey’s driver), Angus Sampson (Saul Goodman from Better Call Saul) and Krista Warner.

The Lincoln Lawyer is the latest series adapted from Michael Connelly’s legal thrillers to hit streaming services; following Bosch and Midnight Texas on The CW. Creator David E. Kelley participated in the Writers Guild of America strike to produce this series which Connelly co-executives with Ted Humphrey and Ross Fineman as executive producers.

Plot

Mickey Haller operates out of his Lincoln Town Car, traveling between Los Angeles courthouses to defend criminals of all stripes: biker gang members, con artists, drunk drivers and drug dealers are just some of those he represents; from biker gang members and con artists to drunk drivers and drug dealers. But when Mickey is hired by a wealthy real estate developer accused of attempted murder of prostitute, Haller realizes this case involves far more than blackmail.

The plot of The Lincoln Lawyer is excellent and will keep viewers gripped from start to finish. Manuel Garcia-Rulfo’s acting was outstanding and court room scenes kept you engaged until the very last scene.

The Lincoln Lawyer is based on a novel written by Michael Connelly that marks the sixteenth book in his Harry Bosch series and introduces Haller, Detective Hieronymus “Harry” Bosch’s half brother. It marks Michael Connelly’s third streaming series adaption of one of his novels.
